About Instructor

Mehedi Haque

Mehedi Haque has been drawing cartoons since 1997. He began his career as a freelance cartoonist and joined the cartoon and satire magazine UNMAD in 1998. In 2003, he became the cartoonist for The Daily New Age. In 2011, Haque founded his own cartoon school, AKANTIS, to train aspiring young cartoonists. Since then, hundreds of young artists have joined the courses, with some now working professionally. Reflecting on his journey, Haque says, 'I always felt the absence of a cartoon school when I was learning, so I wanted to create one for the next generation, so they could have guidance in this field. Haque launched Bangladesh’s first dedicated comic book publication, Dhaka Comics, in 2003. Today, it is regarded as an important platform for Bangla comics. Haque is currently completing his Master’s in Comics at the California College of the Arts and looks forward to further enhancing his teaching skills with the knowledge he gains there.
